Claesson Koivisto Rune: Plus House is a pre-fab two-story house with the generic proportions of a traditional Swedish barn house. Instead of windows positioned like regular “holes” along the walls, entire sides are glazed. Seen in plan, these two lines of vision straight through the building are perpendicular like a plus sign.
This house was designed for pre-fab manufacturer Arkitekthus.

Architecture Australia: The prototype house is achieved most elegantly here using pieces of laser-cut plywood brought to site on a single flat-bed truck. What is groundbreaking is that the aspiration for prototyping has been coupled with a formal complexity and potential for customization supported by new computer-supported design and manufacturing tools. The duo has been working for a decade now on the potentials for interlocking structures of smaller planar parts. Communicating the fabrication and assembly of 1,100 non-identical pieces required atypical forms of documentation, and with that, an original approach to thinking through how to design and realize that design.

HABODE is built on an eco-friendly concept designed by New Zealander Rod Gibson who recalls the enjoyment of holidays in a secluded spot near clear waters and green grass that epitomizes the development of family values he took for granted as a child in the early 1960’s. With HABODE, Rod seeks to share that enjoyment of life with his family and with you.

Building cost-effective and desirable housing is the key to sustaining authentic urban communities. That’s why Unico created inhabit, housing designed to make city living more accessible. inhabit is built using the most advanced and efficient technologies and clearly demonstrates that attractive, high quality modular apartments are a practical reality for future city dwellers.
The architecture of inhabit follows a tradition of mid-century modern design, influenced by the optimism of the early 21st century. The design refers to a cultural, artistic and intellectual state that elevates the individual. This path of modern architecture is no longer focused on a rejection of ornament, but the elevation of the spare canvas that allows for the personal ornamentation of the space.

Globe and Mail: Megabuilder Mattamy Homes is constructing a subdivision of houses in Milton, Ont., that are, for the most part, assembled on the factory floor and then transported by truck.
The main advantages for the builder are the protection of raw materials from theft and inclement weather, and the safety of the workers. Roof trusses, for example, are built by workers standing and walking around on the factory floor.

Dwell: … dubbed “7.83 Hz” after the idea to create a home that matches the natural frequency of our planet… Architects Simon Beames and Simon Dickens’ London-based practice, Youmeheshe, was set up to develop an innovative and potentially revolutionary design, which would make a carbon-neutral, eco-friendly prefab house available to the mass market. Yet the two Simons are still unsure how exactly to pitch the idea to a nation that has accepted organic vegetables but has yet to fully embrace the Prius. In ten years’ time the idea will doubtless sell itself, but today the two innovators are way ahead of the curve.

Slate: In the last few years, prefabs have reappeared, in shelter magazines and coffee-table books. The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis even made prefab houses the subject of an exhibition. These hip new modular homes—Business Week referred to them as “glamorous”—have names like KitHaus, Flatpak, and Breezehouse. The SU-SI house, produced by KFN Products in Austria and shown here being lifted onto a foundation in rural New York state, is typical of the genre: stylish, clean-cut, and about $100 a square foot (site work not included). This is more than twice the price of a commercial builder house, but never mind; the current vogue for prefabs is more about industrial chic than affordability.
